TheraSuit Method
What is the TheraSuit Method?
The TheraSuit Method is an intensive therapy approach designed by Izabela and Richard Koscielny to help clients improve strength, balance, posture, coordination, and functional movement. It combines a specially designed therapeutic suit with individualized exercises and specialized equipment to promote more efficient movement patterns and encourage motor learning.
Every therapy program is customized to the client's unique abilities and goals, making it a valuable treatment option for many clients with neurological and developmental conditions.
Unlike traditional therapy that may occur once or twice a week, the TheraSuit Method is used as part of an intensive therapy program, allowing clients to practice functional movements through frequent repetition. This high level of practice helps encourage neuroplasticity - the brain's ability to build and strengthen new movement pathways.

How does the TheraSuit Work?

The TheraSuit is a soft support system made up of a vest, shorts, knee pads, and specially designed shoes connected by adjustable elastic bands.
The suit is carefully fitted to each client and helps:
-
Improve body alignment and posture
-
Increase body awareness (proprioception)
-
Encourage proper muscle activation
-
Improve balance and coordination
-
Support more efficient movement patterns
As clients move through therapy activities, the suit provides continuous proprioceptive input/sensory feedback which helps the brain better recognize where the body is in space. This increased body awareness can improve motor planning, coordination, and movement efficiency.
Rather than doing the work for the client, the TheraSuit helps place the body in a more optimal position so the client can actively practice movements using their own muscles. Through repetitive, functional activities, these improved movement patterns can become more natural over time while promoting strength, endurance, and motor learning.
What is the Universal Exercise Unit (Therapy Cage)?
The Universal Exercise Unit (UEU), often referred to as the "Therapy Cage," is a customizable therapy system made up of a strong metal frame with a network of pulleys, bungee cords, and support straps. These components can be adjusted in countless ways, allowing therapists to create exercises that are tailored to each client's unique needs and abilities.
The UEU gives therapists the ability to support the client's body where needed, reduce the effects of gravity, or add gentle resistance to make movements more challenging. This allows children to safely practice skills that might otherwise be difficult, such as sitting, standing, balancing, walking, climbing, and transitioning between positions.
Because the system can be customized for every activity, the Therapy Cage helps clients build strength, improve coordination, develop better body control, and gain confidence as they work toward greater independence.
