Adult Intensive Therapy

Intensive therapy programs have become a very popular treatment protocol amongst families for children with disabilities. However, the benefits of intensive therapy programs don't stop after any particular age range; the same principles behind neuroplasticity and motor relearning can be applied to clients of all ages looking to receive greater outcomes in their treatments.

What is an intensive therapy program?

Intensive therapy programs are a focused, individualized treatment approach designed to help clients improve movement and function.

Rather than attending therapy once or twice a week, intensive programs provide multiple hours of therapy each day over several consecutive weeks (typically 2-3 hours a day. 5 days a week, for multiple weeks).

This concentrated approach allows for increased repetition and practice of meaningful movements and functional skills, providing the body and nervous system with frequent opportunities to adapt and build upon progress.

At ParaFisio Therapy & Wellness, each intensive is built around the individual’s abilities, challenges, and personal goals. Treatment focuses on purposeful, repetitive practice to help improve functional movement, promote neuroplasticity, and support greater independence in everyday activities.

Who Can Benefit From Adult Intensive Therapy Program?

Adult intensive therapy can benefit individuals who want to make meaningful improvements in their strength, mobility, endurance, and overall function through a concentrated period of therapy. While our programs are especially well suited for individuals recovering from neurological injuries or conditions, an intensive may also be appropriate for adults who have experienced a decline in strength or endurance and want to get back to feeling stronger and more capable.

Our programs may be a good fit for clients who are:

  • Recovering from a stroke and working to regain strength, balance, coordination, or walking ability

  • Recovering from a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or other acquired brain injury

  • Living with cerebral palsy or another neurological condition that affects movement and function

  • Recovering from a spinal cord injury

  • Working to improve walking, transfers, stairs, balance, or overall mobility

  • Looking to continue building on progress made during inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation

  • Experiencing age-related deconditioning, weakness, or reduced endurance and wanting to regain strength, mobility, and confidence

  • Preparing to return to activities that have become more difficult due to changes in strength, balance, or endurance
